“Drumming is not only an instrument you learn, it’s a way of allowing people to express who they really are and develop a life long skill”
Matthew Moore, Contributor
Matthew began drumming at the age of 12 when he joined the Lothian and Borders Army Cadet Force Pipes and Drums. He had been playing the Violin since he was 7, so the musical bug had already caught him.
Throughout Matthew’s career in the Army Cadet Force he has worked his way through all the SCQF levels gaining his SCQF level 6 in his penultimate year as a cadet. In April of 2014, Matthew was appointed Senior Drum Major for the Cadet Forces Pipes and Drums of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. This gave him many opportunities within the band, from taking part in the Berlin Tattoo’s and the Christmas Tattoo’s in Basel to leading the beating of the retreat in front of HM the Queen at Balmoral Castle.
Matthew is now a Sergeant Instructor with the Army Cadet Force Pipes and Drums, teaching at both a detachment night and at the National Training Events held by the ACFA. He teaches Cadets the repertoire for the Pipe Band as well as helping cadets to work towards their SCQF qualifications.
He is also currently studying at Edinburgh College on a Childhood Practise course with the long goal of becoming a Primary Teacher.
